The first project that Noisy Red Cinema embarked upon, and the most ambitious of them all, Once Upon a Time in Frickley sees us take a trip to a fictionalised, fantastical Wild West, filled with Heroes, Villains, sought after Sheriff Stars, Hobby Horses, sentient Soda Cans, inadequate Mayors, and plenty of gunslinging action!
The dust never quite settles in Frickley, where every corner holds a surprise and every character has a score to settle, a secret to spill, or a showdown waiting just around the bend.
Frickley is just the beginning. We have more stories waiting to be told and worlds yet to be built, so keep your eyes peeled to this space!

Our story follows Cliff Waxton, a low-level Sheriff’s Deputy with big dreams but little sense. Cliff wants more than anything to become the Sheriff of his town of Frickley, though the issue is, Cliff might just be the most useless Lawman in the entire country. Still, when the current residing Sheriff of Frickley is killed by dangerous outlaw Louis Nickletooth, the spot is open, and a peculiar way of deciding on a new Sheriff is concocted by the town’s Mayor. Whoever finds and kills Louis Nickletooth, will become the new Sheriff.
Well, the quest is set, with his friends in tow, it’s time for Cliff to slay this bandit and achieve his dreams. There’s only one issue… Louis Nickletooth is just about the most dangerous a man can be. Hell on Earth personified, loves your insides on your outsides, the most psychopathic and sadistic a man can get. It’s going to take a sure fire miracle for Cliff or his friends to topple this foe…
…but hey, miracles have been known to happen.

Once Upon a Time in Frickley is a series, currently in post-production on its first season, made up of 4 episodes. The shoot went fantastic, a wonderful time that saw us travel to the amazing Tranquility Wild West Town in Aberdeen to use as the titular ‘Frickley’, as well as various places like Ilkley Moor in Bradford, and across Pontefract, Leeds, and Doncaster. It’s not often you get a Western shot in Scotland and Yorkshire.
The edit trucks on, and we’re aiming for an official release early in 2026. Though backers and investors of the project will have plenty to see before that point, as will the public, so keep your eyes peeled.
